An open conference on trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Iran was held on the site of the Business Russia public organization. Participants included representatives of the two countries' authorities, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), and over 250 entrepreneurs from Iran's largest companies in the food industry, consumer and industrial products, medicine and pharmaceuticals, financial, transport and logistics services, Russian business as well as companies participating in the ASI Go Global initiative. The meeting was aimed at building a dialogue between the companies for further cooperation.

"The international agenda of the Agency also changes due to changes in the geopolitical situation and Russia's foreign policy course. New opportunities are opening up to expand the international cooperation agenda, despite serious external political and economic pressures and the departure and suspension of many foreign companies in Russia. Today we are turning to the East," commented Anton Moskalenkov, Director, International Office.

Welcoming the participants at the conference plenary session, Nonna Kagramanyan, vice president and head of the executive committee of Business Russia, expressed confidence that such a large-scale dialogue between business representatives of the two countries will serve to expand business contacts and lay the foundation for further fruitful cooperation. She noted that "trade turnover between Russia and Iran increased by 82% in 2021 compared to 2020, and there is great potential and opportunity to increase it."

"Russian business is forced to adapt to the new reality. It matters to us when our neighbor faces sanctions difficulties, so we decided to establish economic cooperation. Today we have brought the largest businesses that are ready to help Russian companies build new chains," commented Alaei Tabatabai, a member of the delegation and Deputy for International Market Development at Trade Promotion Organization of IR Iran.
